Inside the New York Times “Lively Morgue”

Print archives that were once the heart of many newspapers have gone the way of the floppy disk. But at the New York Times, home to the Lively Morgue Tumblr, the technology that’s threatened to kill the morgue may also save it. We went inside the morgue to find out what all the fuss was about. Read the accompanying feature.

I’m so excited to have two videos featured at the launch of Tumblr’s new Storyboard site.  This one about The New York Times photo and clippings morgue was amazing and endlessly fascinating.  We probably had enough material to do a 15 minute video, but alas, unless you’re hunting Kony, the internets beg for brevity.  Enjoy, and be sure to check out Storyboard!

Video: Kids Predict the 2012 Oscars

In which I try to get kids’ opinions on the 84th annual Academy Awards without being locked up as a child predator.

Here’s my thrilling, super romantic date (yes, all dates I go on have a step and repeat in the background) with Yvonne Strahovski, star of NBC’s Chuck and this year’s face of SoBe’s Life Water campaign.  I brought Australian food (kinda), some movie ideas, and a whole lotta charm, and you’re going to want to watch it to the end, because that’s where my crowning achievement as a man occurs.

God help me, I’m starting to make supercuts to express my feelings.  Dina’s back visiting family in England for the next few weeks, and after saying I miss you in every way possible, I decided to make this video to supplement my efforts.  Feel free to use it yourself if you happen to be missing someone right now, as well.

New Video! Home Alone Slapstick Supercut

This Christmas season has been heavy with Home Alone posts, and here’s one more.  This is my Christmas gift to you, a supercut of all the torture inflicted on the Wet Bandits by Kevin McCalister.  It’s two movies worth of slapstick in less than two minutes.  Enjoy, and a very merry Christmas to you!

Do they know it’s Global Orgasm for Peace Day at all? Kudos to Adam Gabbatt and Ryan Jones for brilliantly, uh, pulling off a potentially disastrous man-on-the-street video. Now, “lie back and think of Syria.”

When Braiker comes calling with a project, you expect nothing less than something of Global-Orgasm-for-Peace caliber.  Today is the day, so do your part for peace.

I didn’t get all dressed up for nothin’.  Here’s the video detailing my body-paint-soaked exploits at Comic Con, in which I walked around in public in some colored Fruit of the Looms for a couple hours.  If I were an actual superhero, I would be called Shadenfreude and my superpower would be amusing people by humiliating myself.  Enjoy!

guyism:

In this latest Guyism Original, mediocre Marvel superhero 3D Man (mild mannered Guyism video producer Ryan Jones), original version pictured below, goes to New York Comic Con 2011 with a petition to get himself to be the next great comic book hero movie.

For reference, here’s 3D Man in comic form:

Supercut: Breaking Bad: Gus Fring, Hiding in Plain Sight

In honor of Breaking Bad’s season finale this Sunday, I put together this little mashup for Guyism featuring one of the show’s greatest characters: Gustavo Fring.  Like magic, watch him change before your very eyes from charming, soft-spoken community leader to the Machiavellian meth-producing murderer we all know and love fear.

**SPOILER ALERT: Don’t be an idiot and watch this if you’re not all the way caught up with the show.  This video spans from the end of season 2 up to the most recent episode, and you don’t want to know the plot points contained therein.

This is a video that Shawn Willis and I made while out in Dadaab.  We are really pleased with the way that it turned out and the way in which it explains what the various NGOs do out in Dadaab, the challenges they face, and how partnering with FilmAid has helped them communicate with the large and diverse refugee population.

About Me

A filmmaker and Newsweek video producer in NYC named Ryan Jones, who also goes by K. Ryan Jones for professional and pretentious reasons. He reads books, waxes poetic about old Nickelodeon shows, and at certain times of the day has no clothes on.
